Frequently Asked Questions

  • Quartz countertops are man-made engineered stone countertops formed by combining 90% ground quartz (a natural hard mineral) with 8-10% resins, polymers, and pigments. This forms a very hard granite-like surface. Most Quartz products mimic the look of marble without the maintenance, due in part to its nonporous surface that holds up against stains, requires less maintenance than natural stone and is also easy to clean. Quartz is extremely hard and durable excellent for heavy use with a modern appearance of luxury with out the high costs.

Marble is an excellent choice for high-end designer finishes looking to differentiate from the uniformity that other stones are known for. While many quartz products mimic the look of marble to to a T, marble is sought after for the softer look and feel compared to other materials. If you are considering using a polished marble and maintaining the sheen, use it only on surfaces that do not come in contact with food, drink or product that can stain the surface. Certain contacts, such as citrus, will etch and dull your marble.

Granite is an igneous rock of volcanic origin and is composed of 30% Quartz and 60% Feldspar, which gives it a high range of hardness. It is very resistant to high wear, with superior abrasion and resistance and compressive strength. It is available in wide range of colors and is sought for its natural and colorful characteristics. Granite is an excellent material for residential and commercial projects. It holds up to all types of weather and heavy usage.

  • Slabs are always sold intact based on the square feet and layout of your job. Included in the price of material is the cost of transportation. We do our absolute best to lay out your job in a way that will minimize the amount of waste material while maximizing the natural beauty of veining and pattern. In some instances, we may have smaller pieces available in our yard. Our team will advise if we have material that matches your job on-site.

  • Because of the traditional size of slabs, you will end up with seams should your countertop run be longer than the width. Location and visibility of seams will depend on the granularity, color and pattern. Our artisan fabricators have mastered seaming to keep visibility to a minimum. Most customers have found that the beauty of their new countertops outweighs the concern of seams.

  • For marble, prevent etching and stains by using cutting boards, trivets, and coasters. Marble countertops should also be cleaned on a daily basis with a mild soap or stone cleaner. Marble should be sealed regularly, but our experts differ on how often. Check the manufacturers recommendations on the product label. Many sealers will last 10+ years and others only 6 months.

Always avoid abrasives, even for granite and quartz. However, both granite and quartz are stronger and more durable when it comes to cleaning.

  • While excessive heat can damage marble, quartz, and travertine, all stone products can withstand moderate heat with little damage. Granite will actually absorb heat from hot trays without being harmed.
